Homework:

ASP was started with homework and study skills specifically in mind.

Students work in a class room setting with a real teacher. The teacher not only helps the children finish their homework, but the teacher investigates through the schools website and emails the dates of students’ tests and papers. Therefore, the teacher has the children study for the tests days in advance.

On a Monday your child may say, “I don’t have any homework today.” I’m sure you’ve never heard that! However, our ASP teacher will point out that your child has a spelling test Friday and a Social Studies test on Thursday and that he or she needs to start studying today.

ASP teachers will quiz students to see if they're ready for their tests.

If a teacher feels that a student is not prepared for the next day after his or her 1.5 hours of studying, the teacher will work with the student until he or she is ready. ASP teachers will also send notes home or talk with the parents to discuss the children’s academic situation.

However, most students are able to finish their homework in 45 minutes to 1 hour most days. When the children are finished and the teacher is satisfied, the students read for 20 to 30 minutes. With phones, TV and computers playing such a significant role in children’s lives, ASP feels that it is our responsibility to instill the joy of reading to our students.
